The IMF’s Monetary Operations and Instruments Database (MOID) is a comprehensive repository of information on central banks’ monetary policy implementation frameworks. It covers key operational design features, including policy objectives, counterparties, collateral frameworks, and the use of monetary policy instruments under normal conditions, as well as tools deployed in crisis situations, such as emergency liquidity assistance and system-wide liquidity interventions.
The MOID is structured around a detailed and standardized framework developed by experts in the IMF’s Monetary and Capital Markets Department (MCM), enabling consistent documentation and cross-country comparability of monetary operations.
Building on earlier survey-based vintages conducted since 2008, the MOID has evolved from a questionnaire-driven data collection exercise into an AI-enabled platform that systematically extracts and organizes information from central bank sources. This information is subsequently validated by country authorities, ensuring both accuracy and country ownership of the data.
The MOID enables users to analyze monetary policy implementation frameworks across countries and over time, supporting cross-country comparisons, regional assessments, and identification of emerging practices. It also serves as a centralized reference for the most up-to-date information on central bank operational arrangements.
The primary objective of the MOID is to strengthen IMF surveillance, policy analysis, and technical assistance by providing a consistent and comprehensive view of monetary operations frameworks. It also facilitates knowledge sharing across central banks and supports research on monetary policy implementation and operational design.
The MOID is maintained by the IMF’s Monetary and Capital Markets Department.
